Visited for breakfast and was immediately impressed with the quality of service; from the hostess to the server, I felt very comfortable and valued as a customer. I had the veggie omelet, which was very fresh, and a side of hash browns (not too greasy, like your typical diner hash brown). My only request is more tea options other than Lipton. This restaurant has a great mission and I encourage others to check it out for themselves. I know I will definitely be returning for lunch sometime soon.

Even though website says they are open on Saturdays, it is a lie. Went yesterday for breakfast and after walking through all the muddy slush in the parking lot and nearly slipping on the unsalted stairs the place was dark. Doors locked. No one inside. We won't bother next time.

I was amazed at the quality of food and service I received when I went to the Cornerstone Bistro for lunch. I had the 4th Avenue Veggie Burger, so I kind of figured, how can you screw up a veggie burger? It was one of the best I've had- plus the fries and homemade mac n cheese were so delicious, and it truly feels like a classy, five-star restaurant in the middle of Highland Park, so unusual, unexpected, and unique. This place is run by the men and women who benefit from the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries shelters and services, and they appear to be true professionals, presented nicely, and the staff is incredibly gracious and attentive. My meal was $6 total-- you can't find a better deal anywhere in Detroit, and all of the money goes to a great cause!! Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

This afternoon I had lunch at the Cornerstone Bistro with Michael and Mother Pinecone per their suggestion. Michael's mom had seen a special on channel 7 where they showcased the Cornerstone Bistro and the plan behind it. I was game because I was hungry for lunch and it was but a short drive. The common perception of Highland Park is probably about as optimistic as a double date of Debbie Downer and the Droopy the Dog on tranquilizers--Cornerstone Bistro is starting to turn those frowns upside down. Walking in you will find a fresh, clean, and friendly restaurant. The décor is contemporary and elegant yet casual. There a re booths and tables and many smiling faces ready to say, "Hello!" The Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries is the mastermind behind the Cornerstone Bistro and they really are on to something. Presently the Cornerstone Bistro is serving Breakfast until 11 and then Lunch until 2:30. Rumor has it a Sunday Brunch is in the works. The menu isn't huge but varied enough and all the items have Detroit moniker, i.e. I had the Grand Circus Caesar made with freshly baked croutons and hard-boiled egg. Other options included the 4th Street Veggie Burger or the Cass Ave. Club. With my salad I also ordered a side of their "famous" fries which were quite excellent. You could tell they were made fresh and from real potatoes--or at least we suspect so. I also was fortunate to taste their baked macaroni and cheese which was delightful. The Caesar was perfectly fresh with a light dressing that walked the border of too salty but yet amazing. I thought the egg addition was great. My negatives of the meal were mostly service related. Our server was very nice and polite but we did have to ask for more coffee and there wasn't really the standard two bite check back and dessert wasn't mentioned. Looking beyond these small qualms, I would not have a problem easily giving them 5 stars. And really the pièce de resistance of the meal was that everything was so cheap yet delicious and helping a wonderful cause.

My first impression of this restaurant was of an old but well cared for and maintained place. The staff was friendly and professional in their service. All in all my first impression was a very good one. I came near the end of the work day for the staff so everything on the menu was not available. I had the fried mushrooms for an appetizer and they were excellent. For my main meal I had the salmon and it was as good as any I have ever had. It was served with rice pilaf and green beans both of which were delicious. The prices for the meals are outstanding for the service and quality you receive. You would pay much more at any other "sit down" restaurant in the city. But the most amazing thing was not the food but the staff. The staff of this jewel of Highland Park/Detroit are recipients of the DRMM (Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries: drmm.org/cornerstone-bis… a must read) people on the road to a new life. I spoke with the General Manager Tarek Bazzi and he has big and very plausible plans for the restaurant. And the help it can provide for those who want a new and better life.

Amazingly fresh, tasty food surprisingly located in Highland Park. I'm a fan of the mac and cheese as well as the salads - the soups and sandwhiches are great as well.

I passed this place as I was driving on Woodward, I heard the food was pretty good so stopped in. The prices were not too bad and they actually have a really good veggie burger, burger was very flavorful and tasty! I will definitely go back again, the atmosphere was very quiet and relaxed as well and the people are very friendly! Try this place you will not be disappointed!

Okay, the food is just a 3, but I gave it an extra star because of the noble purpose of this venture of trying to build up the impoverished inner city and helping its local residents.
